I got a test from Jerry’s wife Heather yesterday (Saturday). Apparently he coughed hard and one of those crack ribs broke and punctured his lung. He had to have emergency surgery at 3:00 AM Saturday morning. I have asked for an update but as of Sunday morning haven’t received any more news. Prayers for Jerry’s speedy recovery. He sure has been through a lot this year. I will post any news I receive here, and asking that if you hear anything make an update to this post.

  1. Here’s an update from Heather this morning…
    “Ed,
Jerry is doing fine. They still have the drain tube in. He is insistent on getting out of bed and walking. He does not like hospitals. He refers to them as legalther lockup. He has told the doctors he is leaving the hospital on Tuesday whether or not being released. His doctor said if you can walk, eat and keep it down he would release him. He is very rambunctious being cooped up and not having his freedom. He told to say hello Mr Ed, Happy Thanksgiving.
    Regards
    Heather

  2. Jerry,

I have some empathy. I cracked 2 ribs coughing. It hurt especially because it was initially diagnosed as muscle pain. I did NOT puncture a lung through! Again, some empathy. Get well soon!

  3. Update from Heather on Sunday…
“I have told him this, listen to the doctors. How ever it’s hard for him to take orders from Doctors hat he does not know anything about. He is used to giving orders with no questions asked. Don’t know if that is because of the Navy or old age. In any event he will be home next week Wednesday at the latest. The doctor said he was doing remarkably well. Much better than expected.

  4. I just got an update from the Admiral. I missed a call earlier today but we texted later. During the surgery they found a tumor in the lung where he had defeated cancer earlier this year. Not good news. He does expect to get out of the hospital by tomorrow, Wednesday. /Ed
