On this day, September 6th, 1942, Columbus departs La Gomera (Canary Islands) on his New World voyage, with his ships, the Niña, Pinta, and Santa Maria.

The Quiz
Only two ships returned from the journey.
Part A – Which ship did not return?
Part B – What was done to make the best out of a bad situation?

The Answer
Part A
On the night of December 24–25, 1492, off the northern coast of Hispaniola (modern Haiti), the “Santa Maria” (which was Columbus’ flag ship) ship drifted onto a reef/sandbar after the tiller was left to an inexperienced helmsman while Columbus slept.
Part B
Columbus ordered the ship dismantled. Its wood and fittings were used to build a fortified settlement, La Navidad (“The Nativity”), marking the first European outpost in the Americas.

  1. Is anyone surprised that the Admiral got this one right? He is an Admiral for gosh sake. They probably taught him this at Navy War College in his first week! Hahahahaha

Or since he is an OLD admiral, maybe Jerry was on one of those ships. God knows he is old enough! Hahahaha

    Love you Jerry,
    Ed/K8EA

    Great net Ron.

  2. I still say a good investment would be to pay Jerry’s way onto Jeopardy. We would put the funds into the TC Net treasury. Little Betty, is way behind on getting the gift certificates out, she says N1GE hasn’t given her the money.

  3. I tried out for Jepordy some 25 years ago. was not selected. You have to pay all g your own expenses. They pay for nothing. Besides I have know desire to go to Los Angeles. The grounds shakes.
